Second Chance Sundays: DIY Pottery Painting — A Sustainable Pottery Painting Experience in Laguna Beach

Looking for a fun pottery painting experience in Laguna Beach? Our NEW monthly experience, Second Chance Sundays: DIY Pottery Painting is a creative, eco-conscious way to experience ceramics while helping reduce studio waste.

Throughout the year, some handmade pottery pieces are accidentally left behind after firing. Rather than letting these beautiful creations go unused, we're giving them a second life—and inviting you to become part of their story.

During this one-hour workshop, you'll browse a selection of reclaimed ceramic pieces waiting for a new home. Each participant will choose one item upon arrival before decorating it with professional ceramic glazes under the guidance of our instructors.

You'll find a rotating assortment of small handmade ceramics including:

  • Cups

  • Bowls

  • Small plates & dishes

  • Trinket dishes

  • Mini vessels

  • & more!

Because every workshop features different reclaimed pottery, no two experiences are exactly alike.

Whether you're looking for a unique date idea, creative outing with friends, or simply want to enjoy a relaxing evening painting pottery, this workshop is designed for all experience levels.

The Basics

  • Duration: 1 Hour

  • Price: $25 per person per piece

  • Capacity: 10 people an hour

  • Skill Level: Beginner Friendly

  • Ages: 3+ (young children must be accompanied by an adult)

  • Location: ARTime BARRO, Laguna Beach

  • Includes: One reclaimed ceramic piece, professional ceramic glazes, and kiln firing.

  • Turnaround: Pieces will be ready for pickup in about 2-3 weeks

  • Can't choose just one? We don't blame you! If you find another piece you'd love to glaze during the workshop, just let your instructor know. Additional pieces can be added for $25 each, giving you the opportunity to create even more handmade keepsakes.

What You'll Experience

At the beginning of class, you'll be invited to browse our collection of reclaimed ceramics and choose the piece that speaks to you.

Our instructors will introduce the different glazes available, explain how ceramic glazing works, and share tips for layering colors and creating beautiful finishes.

Once you've completed your design, we'll fire your piece in our kiln to create a durable, food-safe finish (when applicable). After firing, in about 2-3 weeks, you'll receive an email letting you know when your pottery is ready for pickup.

Each workshop is intentionally relaxed and welcoming, making it the perfect opportunity to slow down, create something meaningful, and help give a forgotten ceramic piece a fresh start.

Why We Created This Workshop

At ARTime BARRO, we believe every handmade piece deserves a chance to be loved.

Occasionally, pottery created in our studio is never picked up. Instead of letting these ceramics go to waste, we're giving our community the opportunity to transform them into something new.

It's our small way of practicing more sustainable ceramics while celebrating the beauty of handmade objects. Every piece has already been crafted with care, it simply needs someone to add the finishing touch.

  • Available pieces vary between each workshop and cannot be reserved in advance.

  • Finished pieces will be ready for pickup approximately 2–3 weeks after class.
