Kids Summer Pottery Camp

Castle & Cottage Clay: A Magical 4-Day Ceramic Summer Camp at ARTime BARRO in Costa Mesa

This summer, kids are invited to step into a world of imagination, storytelling, and clay at ARTime BARRO’s Kids Summer Pottery Camp in Costa Mesa. Inspired by whimsical castles, cozy cottages, fairy tale villages, and fantasy worlds, each camper will design and build their own ceramic masterpiece from start to finish.

With small class sizes, hands-on instruction, and a creative studio environment, this pottery summer camp is perfect for young artists who love making, building, drawing, and storytelling.

Summer Camp Details

Camp 1:

  • July 6 - 9

  • 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

  • Ages 7 - 10

Camp 2:

  • July 20 - 23

  • 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

  • Ages 10 - 13

Location: Artime Barro, Costa Mesa
Price: $400 per child
Limited to 8 kids per camp

What Kids Will Create

Throughout the week, campers will design and build their own ceramic castle, fairy cottage, or magical village using handbuilding and wheel throwing techniques. Along the way, they’ll create miniature details and fantasy-inspired characters that bring their stories to life.

Each student will leave with:

  • A large ceramic castle or cottage sculpture

  • Handmade miniature accessories and characters

  • Decorated display box environment

  • A written fairy tale story inspired by their creation

  • New pottery skills and creative confidence

Daily Camp Schedule

Monday — Dream & Design

Students will be introduced to the basics of pottery, including slipping, scoring, and wheel throwing techniques.

We’ll begin with:

  • Pottery demonstrations

  • Introduction to the studio and our story

  • Brainstorming ideas

  • Sketching castles, cottages, and magical worlds

  • Planning each student’s final sculpture

Tuesday — Build the Structure

Campers will begin constructing the main body of their project using slab-building techniques or the pottery wheel.

Students will:

  • Build walls and structures

  • Create roofs, windows, and doors

  • Add brick textures, roof tiles, and architectural details

  • Learn foundational ceramic construction techniques

Wednesday — Create the Magical Details

This is where imagination takes over.

Students will sculpt:

  • Fairy tale characters

  • Mushrooms, trees, bridges, horses, and woodland details

  • Tiny furniture and miniature accessories

  • Decorative elements that personalize their world

Thursday — Glaze, Storytelling & Presentation

On the final day, campers will finish and celebrate their creations together.

Activities include:

  • Underglazing and painting ceramic pieces

  • Decorating a cardboard display box with grass, moats, landscapes, or scenery

  • Writing a short fairy tale inspired by their creation

  • Presenting their story and artwork to the class
