Slow Feeder Pet Bowl Pottery Class – Wheel Throwing Workshop in Santa Monica, CA

Create Handmade Ceramic Dog Bowls at ARTime BARRO

Join us for a hands-on pottery wheel workshop in Santa Monica at ARTime BARRO, where you’ll create two functional ceramic pet bowls designed specifically for your dog or cat — a slow feeder bowl and a standard water or food bowl.

This immersive ceramics class in Los Angeles focuses on both form and function, guiding participants through the process of wheel throwing while exploring how thoughtful design can support your pet’s health and daily routine.

Using pre-centered clay, students will learn the fundamentals of shaping bowls on the pottery wheel, with an emphasis on creating intentional forms that are both beautiful and practical. The slow feeder bowl introduces a unique sculptural element, incorporating raised forms that encourage dogs to eat more slowly and mindfully.

Throughout this beginner-friendly pottery class, instructors will guide participants through key techniques, including:

Wheel Throwing Fundamentals:
Learn how to shape and center pre-prepared clay on the pottery wheel, forming balanced, functional ceramic bowls with proper depth and structure.

Slow Feeder Bowl Design:
Create raised rings and contours within the bowl to promote slower eating, helping reduce common digestive issues such as bloating and discomfort in dogs.

Form & Function in Ceramics:
Explore how everyday objects can be elevated through handmade ceramic design, combining aesthetics with purposeful use.

Each participant will create:

  • One slow feeder ceramic dog bowl

  • One standard ceramic bowl (for water or food)

All pieces will be finished with a food-safe glaze selected at the end of the workshop and kiln-fired by the studio. Finished bowls will be ready for pickup approximately four weeks after the class.

These handmade ceramic pet bowls are:

  • Natural and eco-friendly

  • 100% handmade

  • Dishwasher safe (hand washing recommended for longevity)

  • Designed to help prevent bacterial buildup

Eating too quickly can lead to bloating, gas, and upset stomachs in dogs. A slow feeder bowl helps support healthier digestion while turning mealtime into an engaging and enriching experience.

This pottery workshop in Santa Monica is ideal for beginners learning the wheel, as well as dog lovers and pet owners looking to create something meaningful, functional, and personal.

Small, calm dogs are welcome to attend with their owner. Dogs must be leashed and remain at your wheel/station throughout the workshop.
