Clay Luminaria Pottery Workshop

Create a Sculptural Ceramic Tealight Sconce at ARTime BARRO

Join us for a hands-on Clay Luminaria pottery workshop in Santa Monica at ARTime BARRO, where sculpted clay meets soft, ambient light. In this intimate evening workshop, you’ll create a ceramic luminaria (tealight sconce) designed to cast warm shadows and glow gently in your space.

Inspired by Latino architectural forms and traditional luminaria designs, this workshop explores slab-building, carving, and cut-out techniques that transform clay into light-filled sculpture. The focus is on form, texture, and negative space — how light moves through an object, not just around it.

Under the guidance of instructor Spencer, you’ll handbuild your luminaria using flat clay slabs, assembling and refining the structure before carving openings and surface details. Whether your aesthetic leans minimal, organic, geometric, or whimsical, your finished piece will be a one-of-a-kind expression of your creativity and design eye.

This workshop offers a calm, intentional making experience in a cozy studio setting, perfect for slowing down and creating something meaningful by hand.

After the session, your luminaria will remain in the studio to be dip-glazed and kiln-fired by our team. Finished pieces will be ready for pickup approximately four weeks after the workshop.

Note: Tealight candles are not provided.

Ideal for a Santa Monica date night, a creative outing with friends, or a relaxed evening of hands-on pottery.
